Climbing walls in Sheffield
We have a dedicated family and childrens climbing centre here in Sheffield; Mini Climbing Works, S8 0UJ. Mini Climbing Works offers a unique indoor climbing wall area to test childrens limits, and a dedicated toddler and parent session Rock Kids.
Rock Up Meadowhall is a new indoor climbing centre with 17 different climbing walls, a soft play area and cafe. There’s dedicated toddler sessions throughout the week or general open climbing sessions.
The Foundry climbing centre, S3 8EN, offers outdoor and indoor climbing activities for all ages and kids clubs. You can hire an instructor for a dedicated family session for rock climbing, abseiling or weaselling. Indoor climbing walls kids clubs start at age 7.
Swimming pools in Sheffield
From small local community run pools, to big leisure pools, we have everything to suit all in Sheffield. Try an SIV pool like Ponds Forge, Hillsborough or Heeley for a fun swim. Ponds Forge & Hillsborough both have slides and baby areas. Warm pools suitable for babies include Zest Community Centre and King Edwards. Kids classes are available at all of these pools.
Ice Sheffield is an Ice Arena at Don Valley. Inside, there’s 2 Olympic sized ice skating rinks. Public skating sessions for all ages are available, plus ice skating lessons, fun family sessions with meet and greet characters/themes, ice hockey and altitude high ropes course.
For really little ones, they have the Penguin ice skating friends to help them go around the ice!
Altitude high ropes at Ice Sheffield
This challenging high ropes course at Ice Sheffield has 34 challenging obstacles. It includes 30 foot leep of faith, rope bridges, scramble nets and much more. Open daily 11:00am – 3:00pm.
There are no age restrictions, but children under 11 years who are 1.1 – 1.4 metres tall must be supervised by an adult at 2:1 ratio.
Trampolining in Sheffield
There’s more than a few trampolining parks in Sheffield. Jump INC at Meadowhall is a large, indoor fun trampolining park with parent and toddler sessions, classes and parties. There is a cafe on-site.
Tramp2Lean is a smaller trampoline park, offering kids parties, bounce & fun kids sessions, SEN sessions and more.
Air Haus Inflatable Park
Air Haus is Sheffield’s dedicated inflatable park at Meadowhall. For complete indoor inflatable fun, this place is really cool! Slides, ball pits, parent and toddler sessions, parties and an on-site cafe make this a good day out for all ages.
Sheffield City Kayak Club have river and pool family sessions at Kelham Island, all year round.
Sheffield Canoe Club have canoeing on the River Don and pool sessions at Hillsborough Park.
The Cable and Aqua Park at Rother Valley Country Park offers a fun-filled, action-packed day out of watersports fun. Choose from the inflatable outdoor Aqua Park assault course or an adrenaline fuelled session of kneeboarding, water-skiing or wakeboarding fun on the full-size Cable Wake Park. Aqua Park has an age restriction of 7. Junior Rider sessions at the cable wake park offers children an introduction to kneeboarding, water-skiing and wake boarding from age of 8. Note, the lake is currently closed due to toxic algae (September 2019)
Water sports is available to hire at the Rother Valley activity centre, with something for all the family. Hire pedal boats, go rowing or try canoeing. Sailing and archery is also available.
Family cycling in Sheffield
There’s so much to choose from when it comes to family cycling in Sheffield!
Rother Valley Rippers are a cycling club for children from the age of 3 – 15 years. The Rother Valley Rippers sessions offer young riders the chance to develop their skills in structured sessions based around the BC Go-Ride sessions.
Junior Park Run is a popular one in the city. A weekly, and free, 2k timed walk, inclusive for children and parents/carers every Saturday morning at Graves Park.
Let’s Ride Pop Ups are across the city, including Hillsborough Park Last Saturday of month until November, and Concord 2nd Saturday of month again til November and then likely to start again in Spring. Check the page here to find them.
There’s the BMX track at Bolehill Recreation ground, with rumours of a club starting soon.
The North Midlands Youth Squad have sessions down at Forge Valley on Saturdays that include Youth Racing Squad and Balance bike sessions.
Bike hire is available at Monsal Trail near Bakewell, and other Derbyshire Trails, plus Fairholmes. Penistone CiC offer bike hire on the TPT in Penistone. The National Trust offer bike hire and rides at Clumber Park and on the Tissington Trail.
Orienteering in Sheffield
South Yorkshire orienteers have a busy calendar of events and a Juniors club. They run events every month on a Saturday for children and adult beginners in Endcliffe Park, Western Park and Ecclesall Woods, amongst other parks, as well as regular coaching sessions. - Family fitness sessions at Totley Hall Park are every Sundays. They feature circuits- style exercises for parents, integrated with fun activities for the kids. All ages are welcome, but it is best suited to ages 4 to 10. Under 4s are completely free.
- Sports classes of all varieties and types can be found across Sheffield. Try SIV for classes like trampolining, gymnastics and swimming, for all ages. - Virgin Active Sheffield have a swimming pool, climbing wall, gym, kids club and activities, creche and cafe.
- Ringinglow Archery and Target Sports Centre have archery for ages 8+ and knife throwing from 11+.
