Free Day Out: Anthony McCall: Solid Light Works at The Hepworth Wakefield

We’re regular visitors to the Hepworth Wakefield, it’s free and a really lovely family friendly art gallery. I always recommend it, especially as there’s so much to do in the area so you can make more of your day out, too. We recently went to a n new exhibition at the Hepworth and I had to share as it’s a great sensory experience for little ones. Anthony McCall: Solid Light Works at The Hepworth Wakefield

At The Hepworth Wakefield you’ll find a gorgeous cafe, free family workshops & activities, a playground, a lovely shop and very interesting exhibitions. Read this to find out more.

Anthony McCall: Solid Light Works is on until 3rd June and is an installation exhibition of solid lights…

McCall’s new installations use only projected light and a thin mist, creating physically powerful works that take on the appearance of sculptural forms in space. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the planes and chambers created by the projections.

Basically a room full of lights and it’s super interesting for kids! There’s smoke/mist and the lights create interesting shapes and tunnels to pretend to walk through. Eric was really unsure at first especially because it’s really dark, but he soon loved it and was so intrigued. He was busy making shapes, running around in the shadows and dancing.

Really recommend a visit especially as it doesn’t cost you anything. If it’s a nice day, try the Room on the Broom adventure trail at Anglers Country Park or the fantastic new adventure playground at National Coal Mining Museum.
