Christmas: What to do this week in Sheffield Monday 17-Friday 21st

Hello, hello! We don’t usually have week roundup posts here but it’s a CHRISTMAS BONUS! And jam packed full of days out, activities, events and things to do this week. Enjoy reading this Christmas: What to do this week in Sheffield Monday 17-Friday 21st guide. And lots of great ideas for day trips nearby!

I usually post Monday-Friday at 7:30am on my Facebook page, every morning, with a list of daily local playgroups & classes and 5 ideas for things to do. However, to replace that (as most classes/groups are finished for Christmas now) here is a bonus guide to cover the entire week.

The idea is that if you’re not super busy this week and still need some ideas for things to do then you can refer back to this guide. To replace the daily morning Facebook posts on my page they’ll be a quick “5 ideas for today” and a top favourite day out we’ve discovered this year, changing daily.

Also on the run up to Christmas, this week will see lots of posts here on my blog as I work through my long lists of drafts. I’m going to be super busy this week so make sure you’re subscribed and don’t miss out!

Right, let’s get into it. I’m excited about this because I need things to do this week so I’ll be making plans around this guide, too!

Please remember to check opening times and ticket availability before you go. I would hate for you to be disappointed; as things do change!

On throughout the week:

There’s still time to visit Wish Upon A Star with Santa at Meadowhall, with lots of ticket availability for this week. It’s open every day until Christmas Eve. Read our review here before you go.

Head into town and do the Sheffield Christmas Trail (free). There’s also the Santa’s Post Office, open until Christmas Eve and free. Illuminations in the Peace Gardens, a Big Ferris wheel on Fargate, festive decorations in Winter Gardens and much more.

Every year, typically from December 1st, Abbeydale Park Rise is the most christmassy street in Sheffield.  It’s a unique experience to walk down a street looking at all the lights and Christmas decorations; a wonderful experience. Families love doing this with their kids who will be so excited to see the street lit up from top to bottom and the residents on the street really go all out with a tremendous effort to turn in into a living winter wonderland.

The indoor & outdoor illuminated rooms at Valleyside Garden Centre (near crosspool) look beautiful, as do the decorations, including singing reindeer. It’s free to visit.

Have a day trip to York for Piglets Adventure Farm and ride the Santa Sleigh. It’s one of the most popular Christmas days out and there’s still tickets available for this week. Rhian from our community group reviewed her visit and told us, “Today we have been to the Santa special at Piglets Adventure Farm. We have had a fantastic day… We checked in to “Elf Airlines” for our ride on Santa’s sleigh to the Woodland Village where we met Mrs Claus and then went to see Santa. It was lovely and cosy and Santa spoke to all the children. They took photos but they were a bit pricey so not something that we purchased. He gave out keys to his toyshop to each child and then they went in and chose a toy each. Afterwards we went into the village where adults were offered a cup of mulled wine and a mince pie and there was a place for the children to make Reindeer food. There was a cart selling additional hot drinks and slices of pizza. Then we got there in time for story time with the Elves and they were brilliant at getting all the children involved. Included in the price was entrance to the rest of the farm for the day so we went and had a play in some of the playgrounds, went round the farm and saw some week old piglets and did the fairy trail. We had a lovely time and I’d definitely go back“.

The grotto at Dobbie’s Garden Centre in Chesterfield is a popular one with little ones, and the gifts are good. You can book online and there’s slots available for this week here. Charmaine from our community group told us, “The lady was really friendly and chatted to us while santa was busy. When we went in he was brill as e wasnt sure. He nicely chatted away to us. You choose the gift when booking.”

Chatsworth At Christmas Guest Photo

There’s lots of availability for Chatsworth at Christmas next week. Our reader Kirsty took the kids and was sooo impressed… “When you walk in there is a gigantic dragon, which is a thing that follows you throughout the house as you have to hunt her orange dragon babies. There’s one in almost every room and it is such fun to do this treasure hunt as you go around. The rooms are all themed to different stories, both modern and traditional. The stories include Wizard of Oz, The Tales of Peter Rabbit, James and the Giant Peach and Aladdin, to name but a few. We first came across one in The Green Room after the Sleeping Beauty room. She had a crystal ball and told us if people whispered a wish into it, the wish came true. My son loved it. She then pulled out a story dice and let Finlay roll it to choose a side. It landed on a mouse. Together, her and my son verbally created a magical story that started with a mouse. It was fantastic to listen to…

Lots of availability for the Crystal Peaks Santa’s Grotto this week. £5.50 children and £1 adults.  Our reader Sarah told us, “I took my little ones to see Santa at Crystal peaks today, was really nice. They get to make some reindeer food & watch a 4d film- the night before Christmas- before going to meet santa and getting their reindeer food & a cuddly reindeer toy.”

No booking required to see Santa on Friday at Darfoulds Nursery Garden Centre, Worksop (S80 3EY). Bella from our community group said, “No queue, just a waiting area with plenty of seating, ride on toy reindeers, festive colouring, and a Christmas film! Santa was lovely and friendly and spent a good 5 minutes with us and we didn’t feel rushed at all. There were also 2 real donkeys that you could feed, a cup of carrots for 50p. A sleigh with “snow” which you could have a photo in for £5. Santa is there every Fri, Sat & Sun during December. It was £10.99 per child which included a gift and a personalised letter. They do offers for more than one child too“.
