Some of them are not on sale yet – (it’s not even halloween I’m publishing this early haha) – but many of them are and will sell out so it’s best to plan in advance!

Top 16 Christmas Family Days Out In & Around Sheffield 2019
Christmas at Chatsworth, 9th November-5th January
Discover lands afar at Chatsworth this Christmas, following in the footsteps of explorers Phileas Fogg and Amelia Earhart. Our guides will lead you on a festive adventure around the globe as you travel from a Nordic winter wonderland, through blossom trees in Japan, to a baroque Portuguese church on the journey of a lifetime.
Price: Free under 3’s, 4-16’s £15, adults £25, family £69.
Chatsworth Markets are on 15th November-3rd December and are free. Lucy went last year and told us, “Christmas markets didn’t disappoint… There was a brass band playing and an Old Rag time band. Love how traditional it feels”
Santa Underground at National Coal Mining Museum for England, 23rd November-24th December.
Get kitted out with your helmet and lamp, descend 140m underground, make your way along the special ‘special snowy’ walkway to meet Santa in his magical underground grotto. Children under 4 are allowed underground for these special tours.
Plus there’s an adventure playground, indoor play area for under 5’s, cafe, museum exhibitions and more.
Price: Adults £6.50, children £8.50.

Stockeld Park Christmas Adventure, 14th November – 6th January
See the award-winning Enchanted Forest come to life after dusk as the Winter Illuminations, Yorkshire’s premier light event, transforms Stockeld Park into a dazzling, twinkling wonderland!
General admission tickets include the enchanted forest, winter illuminations, snowflake maze, nordic ski trail, spiders lair, woodlands cove, teepee encampment, tangle tree climb and farmer fosters barnyard. There is even a Santa’s grotto event priced separately and ice skating!
Christmas weekends and Breakfast with Santa at Rufford Abbey, 16th November – 21st December
Free entry to the Christmas weekends on 16th & 17th November and 23rd & 24th November, 10.00am – 4.00pm daily with car parking £4. Breakfast with Santa is on Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st December, £11.50 per person (over 2s).
Families love Rufford Abbey for walks, good playground and a cheap day out.

Sundown Adventureland, 16th November-24th December.
Christmas at Sundown Adventureland is rated as being one of the very best magical, Christmas days out for families with young children. Visit Santa and receive a gift, enjoy Christmas themed rides, have fun in the indoor and outdoor play areas, cafes and much, much more. Booking early is recommended.

All of the above is included in normal entry days, however there is also bonus Christmas spectacular weekends that include live entertainment.

Christmas at Castle Howard, 16th November – 5th January.
Enjoy a truly magical day out as Castle Howard is transformed for the festive season. Experience the magnificent decorations as you journey through the House’s grand state rooms. This years theme is ‘A Christmas Masquerade’ to produce a stunning array of flamboyant displays and installations to surprise and delight visitors of all ages. The Castle Howard “Christmas Masquerade” celebrates the House’s theatrical roots and the influence of the Italian Baroque on its magnificent architecture and interiors.
In addition there’s many catering outlets, gift Shops, Farm Shop and Garden Centre. Only a few tickets available now for audience with Santa and evenings with Santa, but there is a pop-up Santa’s grotto daily in the courtyard which doesn’t require any pre-booking.
Price for house and grounds: Adult £19.80, children £12.15
Sheffield City Centre: Christmas Markets, Sheffield Cathedral, Grotto, Illuminations and more from 17th November
There’s always lots going on in Sheffield City Centre for Christmas, and this year makes no exception. The Christmas light switch on is 17th November and will include a free children’s Christmas party down at The Moor. The Sheffield Christmas Trail will be back this year from 17th-24th December, with Santa’s Post Office being 23rd November – 24th December.
In previous years the Moor Christmas party has had real reindeer, meet Santa, face painting and crafts, choir, elves, snowmen, snow machines, Christmas trees and lots more. Taking place on the same day as the Christmas light switch on with live entertainment, rides, food and drink.
The Sheffield Christmas Trail and Santa’s Post Office are both FREE. Last year these were a big success, the trail included a 4 metre Santa Claus and giant bear! No details released yet but this is about them in 2018.
Sheffield Cathedral will be transformed with magical illuminations and music 4-8th December for “the angels are coming” book here.
Thors is open again 22nd November – 31st December, kids welcome.
Lotherton’s Christmas Experience, 22 November 2019 – 5 January
I’ve heard so many good things about this one.
“Steeped in Christmas magic and excitement. Enjoy a magical Twelve Days of Christmas Walk through the Captains Wood around the estate, make the turtle doves fly, walk through the five gold rings and be one of our drummers drumming! Uncover a secret fairy hideaway in our rock garden. Visit Santa in the North Pole and meet our elves helping in their workshop. Marvel in the splendor of the Edwardian House with the rooms dressed in all their festive finery. Wander down to the Elf Village where young ones can join the elves in making craft activities or listen to stories, and everyone can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or warm snack under our twinkling canopy.”
Price: Christmas experience and general admission includes all of the above and wildlife world, costing £8 adult and £4 child with under 4 free. Santa in north pool is extra at £12.95 per child. Ice skating and magic shows additional fee.
Gemma went last year and reported back saying, “Can’t recommend it enough! Most beautiful real Christmas trees in and lots of dressing up clothes, toys and books, the fairy garden, the elves village which is basically little huts with crafts on (£3 each craft) and hot food and drink, the wildlife park bit and the 12 days of Christmas trail! We spend almost four hours there and could have stayed a lot longer if we didn’t need to get back to walk our dog!”
Piglets Adventure Farm magical sleigh rides, 23rd Nov – 24th December
Jump upon Santa’s magical sleigh ride through the woods, to Santa’s woodland village. You’ll be greeted by Mrs. Clause before going through to meet Santa.
There is also: elf airlines sleigh port, elf story time and the unlocking of Santa’s toy shop to choose your gift. Grown ups get free mince pie & mulled wine!
Price: from £8.95 off peak or £12.95 peak, £11.95 children off peak to £16.95 peak. under 1’s free.

Magna’s 2019 Christmas family fayre, 23rd Nov – 24th November
Over 60 seasonal craft and gift stalls, festive food and drink, family entertainment including children’s activities, traditional fairground rides, reindeers and a visit to meet Father Christmas in his grotto.
Price: £2.50 per adult and includes one free child. Additional children are £1. Santa’s grotto £5 per child includes a small gift.
A Christmas Trail at Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife & Falconry Centre, 30th November to 24th December
Take your family on a magical journey through the wildlife park to meet Santa and his Elf helpers at his woodland cabin. Pick up your activity trail, write a letter to Santa in the Owl Post Room, enjoy a festive tractor sleigh ride, enjoy the festive panto-inspired free flying bird and animal show, meet Santa and his helpers at the woodland cabin and much more. Seeing Santa and all trail activities above are included in normal park admission. Online booking is not required.
Price: Normal admission, adult £13.75, child over 2 £12.50
Elves Workshop and Santa Grotto at Cannon Hall Farm, 30th November – 24th December
Head to elf school where everyone will learn how to make bears with a little help and finally head to the workshop where children will make their very own bear to take home and keep. Children attend a workshop experience – they are first led into a school room where they are taught how to make a bear. In the second room lies the magical workshop where they choose the skin of the teddy bear. Half hour experience with time slots, you must book online.
Santa’s grotto is separate event, but same dates, featuring an elf check in with a passport to the North Pole before meeting Santa and receiving a high quality present. This can be with our without the elf workshop. Prices for that are: £16.95 child over 2, £8 child under 2, adult £8.95. Farm admission included.
In addition there are Santa specials with breakfast or lunch experiences available here.
Price: Tickets to the Elves Workshop are priced at £19.95 per child and £6.95 per accompanying adult. Bears are available for under-twos to purchase at a cost of £13.95. All ticket holders get all day farm admission from 10.30am regardless of their session start time.
Rhiannon went to the elves workshop last year and told us, “I would definitely recommend it. The visit with Santa was lovely, he really took his time talking to my lo and let him ask lots of questions. To get to the elves workshop or the grotto you go through the elves passport check in, then go through the naughty or nice scanner, it was a really nice touch and so cute! My lo absolutely loved it, his gift from Santa was a dinosaur operation game which he really likes. We’ll definitely be going back next year!”
Kelham Island Museum Christmas Victorian Market, 30th November – 1st December
Gather under the gaslamps and celebrate the start of the festive season at our Victorian Christmas Market! Featuring; Unique Gifts & Local Makers, Eat, Drink & Be Merry, Enjoy the Thrill & Excitement of the Family Fairground, Join in the Festive Cheer, Singing Loud for all to Hear, Family Fun & Santa comes to Sheffield, Marvel at the Museum and more.
Price: £6 adults, under 16s free. Includes museum entry. We went last year, review is here.
Winter Season at Eureka!, 23rd November – 5th January
Meet the friendliest elves around as well as Father Christmas himself in our Santa’s Grotto – “One of the best in the UK” – NetMums. Watch our festive show ‘Snow Day’ and see Jack Frost help a child experience the magic of snow for the very first time. No tickets on sale yet, grotto and extra activities are usually included in the general admission to the museum and cost no extra.
Enchanted at Brodsworth Hall, 5th December – 22nd December
Make the most of winter evenings this December with an enchanting experience of light, colour and sound as Brodsworth Hall and Gardens is transformed into an illuminated world.
Grab the winter woollies, your family and friends, and revel in the most enchanting event of the year. Remember to book early to avoid missing out.

Lucy said, “It was so lovely and beautifully simple, an illuminated walk with talking trees, fairy houses, smoky entrances with little narratives written on the side, a marshmallow toasting firepit, a few fairground rides and hot food stalls. The kids loved all the lights and all the fairy references, it was so lovely. We already can’t wait to book again next year!”
Breakfast with Santa & Christmas Fayre at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 7th December- 15th December
2 weeks of Christmas run at YWP in December with selected dates for Breakfast with Santa and Christmas Fayre. Breakfast with Santa offers families to meet Santa for a festive breakfast and receive a gift for every child. Christmas Fayre is a festive experience with over sixty festive stalls in our giant, indoor heated marquees, with oodles of craft, gift, food and drink stalls to explore!
Price: Breakfast with Santa £14.95 for adult, £10.95 child over 3 years, general admission to YWP not included. Christmas Fayre £12.50 adult, £10.50 child, under 3’s free, general admission included.
