Spring is the perfect time of year to start planting, why not start growing some strawberries or tomatoes? Toddlers love to dig around in the dirt, and little do they know their playtime will bring yummy food in the summer! Here’s some easy instructions how to get kids started with growing tomatoes. 🙂

Find the bluebells at Ecclesall Woods

Ecclesall woods is a wonderful place to go any time of year, but especially at spring when you might be lucky enough to see bluebells, birds and some flowers in bloom. Go on an adventure around the woods to see what you can find finishing up with treats in the cafe afterwards!

Those baby animals will soon be born and children love little animals! Why not try Heeley City Farm, it’s free and they have a Spring Fair every year that is free entry with food, stalls, activities and more.

Meet Peter Rabbit at Kirkstall Abbey

Have a day trip to Leeds and head to Kirkstall Abbey to meet Peter Rabbit and friends, March 30th! I went to Kirkstall Abbey last year and really loved it, the museum across the road Abbey House Museum is fantastic, too! Kirkstall Abbey’s Easter Eggstravaganza experience is a 50-minute theatrical adventure with a Squirrel Nutkin Trail, pants-style performances, interactive storytelling with Jeremy Fisher and lots more. It sounds absolutely wonderful!

Have a picnic in a park

The milder temperatures are so inviting for picnics and a picnic in the park is an easy and fun thing to do with kids that everyone loves. Pack up your picnic and head to a new park to make it even more of an adventure by trying something new. This list of fantastic parks with playgrounds in Sheffield is a good place to start!

Make herb boxes, daffodil clay pots and more at Sheffield Manor Lodge, every Tuesday and Friday during school holidays for Easter in April. The lavender maze will be in bloom, plus there are outside games, sandpit and discovery centre to have fun with! £4 per crafter.

Explore a beautiful walled garden

There’s a wonderful historic garden at Wentworth Garden Centre, which, in spring will look incredible. You don’t have to go far to find a lovely garden for spring time, though. Hillsborough Park is free to visit and the walled garden there is a little hidden gem. Plus, you can feed the ducks after and visit the library.

Let lose in an amazing adventure playground

These 10 amazing adventure playgrounds are soooo fun, Spring is a great time to get outdoors and start having more days out completely outside. We really loved the FREE adventure playground we found at National Coal Mining Museum For England and can’t wait for picnics there.

Do messy play outside

Get ready for summer outdoor play in the garden by doing some messy play outside. DIY bubbles is something fun, easy and fascinating for toddlers, or use chalk to create pictures?

Visit the zoo and meet Alice in Wonderland whilst you’re there! Alice and all her friends will be at Yorkshire Wildlife Park April 6th-April 8th for Alice in Winderland.

Hardwick Hall will have Cadbury Egg Hunts from 30th March – 2nd April. Have a walk through Lady Spencers Wood where you’ll find the woodland play trail which kids will love. The gardens are Hardwick Hall will be stunning in spring so make sure you explore around them to get the best seasonal experience.

Paint Easter Eggs

This paint your own egg kit from The Works is only £1.50 and comes with everything to make your own little eggs. Paint, stick feathers and glitter on them and even hang them from a tree to decorate for spring time.

They’ll be over 18000 eggs hidden over four days for the huge Easter egg hunt at Graves Park, always popular with families! There are two hunts per day and tickets are £2.50 per child. Plus, don’t forget about the hidden playground!

Dine Sheffield is running throughout March with lots of restaurants and cafes taking part offering great discounted offers. Vouchers can be found on the Dine Sheffield website and there are many great family friendly restaurants to choose from. Why not try somewhere new?

See the Spring flowers in bloom at Renishaw Hall & Gardens

Renishaw Hall & Gardens will be opening for the season on March 28th.  It’s a beautiful place for a family walk around the gardens and the Hall is open every Friday. Lots of lovely flowers to see in spring at Renishaw.

Baking with toddlers is so fun. I really love these daffodil biscuits, they’re easy and look fantastic. Other spring-themed baking ideas are bunny cupcakes, egg shaped cookies, yellow easter cake and carrot cupcakes.

There are millions of snowdrops at Brodsworth Hall during spring and they truly make a fantastic backdrop for beautiful family photos. You may have seen snowdrop photography around online (specifically Instagram!) and Brodsworth Hall is the perfect spot for this. As well as lots of snowdrops to see they’ll be tons of aconites to see in bloom, too. And, during Easter school holidays there is an Easter trail for kids to enjoy.

Day out at Sheffield Botanical Gardens

Sheffield Botanical Gardens is free to visit and must be on your spring bucket list! The gardens are gorgeous in spring and they’ll be so much to see in bloom. There’s a nice cafe, bear pit to discover, glass houses with giant Cacti and tropical plants to explore in. Outside kids will love running around exploring the paths which will be bursting with colour. Watch our for the squirrels!

Ride the Easter Eggspress at Chatsworth House

Chatsworth House playground and farmyard is a very fun place for kids, if you haven’t been already then you must! And during the Easter school holidays you’ll get the chance of riding the Easter eggspress trailer ride, get creative with crafts and take part in the very popular Easter egg hunts.

£2 Bunny Trail at Rufford Abbey Country Park

Have a day out to Rufford Abbey Country Park between 30th March-15th April to take part in their Easter Bunny trail. It’s only £2 per trail and a lovely walk for little legs. Along the way you’ll hunt the eggs and get a chocolate reward on completion! Yay.

Do a Spring Bird Walk

There’s a free Spring Bird Walk at Manor Fields Park (S2) on Saturday 24th March. It starts at 10am and a local bird expert will be joining the walk. Learn all about the birds that feed and breed on the park, and have fun in the playground afterwards!
