What’s on this weekend in and around Sheffield for kids September 8/9
Last chance to go to Rufford On The Beach at Rufford Abbey in Newark, Nottinghamshire. Free punch and Judy, sandpits, entertainment and playground.
It’s 13th Annual Steam & Diesel Gala Weekend at Kirklees Light Railway all weekend. Traditional locomotives plus the only McLaren steamroller in Britain will also be on display.
Penistone Agricultural Show on Saturday 8am-6pm. Livestock, jumping competitions, live music and entertainment for all ages.
Free Rotherham Show at Clifton Park & Museum, all weekend with entertainment, music, retro area, children’s area and lots more.
Family fun day at Barnsley fire station on Saturday, 10am-2pm.
Dinosaur Weekend at Cannon Hall Farm, Barnsley. Loads going on all weekend including a fully immersive dinosaur adventure with an interactive show around our event field (with the same terrific team who brought you our Easter event and sell-out pantos!), Extract pre-historic goo from fossils, Meet our terrific T-Rex, Dinosaur fossil hunting in our new sand-pit and All day farm admission.
Heritage Open Day at South Yorkshire Transport Museum on Saturday is a great opportunity to see the museum for FREE. Open 10-2pm, loads of vehicles to see plus small cafe and gift shop. Usually £6 an adult. Read our review here!
Why not try Family-friendly orienteering this weekend at Endcliffe Park? It’s on Saturday, 12:30-3pm and ideal for all ages.
An idea with a difference! It’s Photomarathon Sheffield 2018 on Saturday, a photography challenge to take 6 photos in 6 given topics. If your LO is interested in taking photos, you could easily turn this into a little activity around the city centre to do together, scavenger hunt, or even try and theme each photo around what your LO enjoys doing in Sheffield City Centre to fit the challenge. On Sunday it’s Family Open Day at Holly Hagg with alpacas, chickens and apple picking. Open 2:30-4pm.
At National Coal Mining Museum for England in Wakefield it’s pirates day on Sunday, with a treasure trail, free fancy dress competition, demonstrations and more. Plus don’t miss the fantastic new adventure playground and indoor play area.
Also in Wakefield, try Hepworth Gallery on Saturday for free drop-in family friendly Art Pods sessions, plus there’s a good playground outside and the cafe is really nice (with toys and books for kids). FREE Autumn Show on Sunday at Heeley City Farm, 12-5pm. Mini beer and food festival, veg monsters, arts and crafts, music, puppet show, kids activities, and lots more. Suitable for all ages!
See a special theatre show “The Girl, The Bear and the Magic Shoes” and book signing on Sunday at Sheffield Library Theatre at the Central Library, 4-6pm.
Watch The Snail & The Whale, selected showings all weekend at Chesterfield Pomegranate Theatre.
There’s superheroes at Matlock Illuminations on Sunday evening, plus fire and circus show.
Free National Trust days out for Heritage Open Days 2018
Over two weekends in September you can discover the special places that the National Trust looks after in Yorkshire free of charge, these ones are open and FREE this weekend.
Nostell Priory, Wakefield– Saturday 8th September. Adventure woodland play area, gardens and historic house.
Nunnington Hall, North Yorkshire – Saturday 8th & Sunday 7th September. Miniature exhibitors, dolls house rooms, LEGO exhibition, beautiful walled garden and Manor House.
Rievaulx Terrace, North Yorkshire – Very close to Nunnington Hall with perfect picnic spots, beech woods and Yorkshire’s finest 18th century gardens with two temples.
Do remember Longshaw Estate in Sheffield is a wonderful National Trust day out for families of all ages and is always free! 🙂
