There is so much to do as we get closer and closer to Christmas. Very exciting! Plenty of FREE things to do this weekend so no need to worry about that!

What’s on this weekend in and around Sheffield for kids November 24/25
FREE The Sheffield Christmas Trail starts on Saturday! The trail is the city centre is completely free and a lovely way to explore the city during the festive season. With giant illuminations, lights, the Christmas markets, Santa’s post office (free) and an app, it makes a lovely and free day out. We’ll be doing this one a few times!
Sheffield Christmas Markets open daily until 24 December. Lovely stalls, gifts, festive food and drink, plus the popular Santa’s grotto at the top of Fargate.
Magna’s Family Christmas Fayre 2018 on all weekend; Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th of November, 10am-4pm with over 60 stalls, family entertainment, plus entry into Magna and outside play areas. 2.50 per adult and includes one free child. Additional children are £1. Free parking. Grotto costs an additional £4.95 per child and includes small child’s gift.
Have a trip to Bakewell for the Christmas Markets and light switch on. On all weekend with Christmas tree light switch on 4:45pm. Over 100 stalls, plus mascots and santa.
Join Whirlow Hall Farm Trust – Christmas Fair all weekend. The farm is transformed into Winter Wonderland, opened at 10am by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield & Father Christmas at 10am. There’s a lot to do. Outdoor ice rink, food and drink, Santa’s grotto, Christmas entertainment & much more. Free for children under 13, free parking, adults £5. Buy tickets here.
FREE entry to Rufford Abbey Christmas Markets all weekend, £3.50 car parking.
The Hepworth Wakefield Christmas Market all weekend, entry £1, under 16’s free. Treat yourself or find the perfect gifts from over 80 independent makers selling textiles, ceramics, jewellery, prints, handmade cosmetics, candles, stationery, plants and homeware. Plus a food and drink tent selling artisan produce made in Yorkshire, street food market, festive performances and free family activities.
Christmas at Elsecar, all weekend, FREE entry. 4pm-8pm Friday and 10am-4pm on the weekend. This Christmas themed 3 day event will host a wide range of activities for all the family, including one of our amazing Craft Fairs that will showcase some of the best crafters the region has to offer.
Warm up in Thor’s Tipi in the Peace Gardens. It’s soooo family friendly, I was surprised how welcoming it is for kids last year. It’s just beautiful. Sooo festive, so warm and cosy and a lovely experience. Highly recommend! It’s free to go inside and there’s a bar selling warm and hot drinks, both soft and alcoholic. There is no admission but you will need to purchase a drink; for a couple quid it is definitely worth it, though! Open daily from 22nd November – 31st December.
It’s FREE to visit the Christmas farm at Woolley Edge Christmas Tree Farm in Wakefield, WF4 2LQ. Watch Santa feed his reindeer at 10am prompt on weekends from 24th November. In additional, there’s a genuine Scandinavian sleigh decorated for families to sit in and have a photo taken for free on your phone/cameras. There is no charge for this and a charity donation box is provided.
See Mother Goose’s Golden Christmas at The Montgomery on all weekend, Saturday 24th-Sunday 25th November. With a host of fairytale characters loved by kids of all ages, “Mother Goose’s Golden Christmas” is a family musical like no other. It’s the perfect way to start your festive season! Tickets from £12.
Christmas Makers Fair at St. Mary’s Community Centre, Bramall Lane, Saturday, 10am-4pm.
Make your own wooden reindeer workshop on Saturday. In Glen Howe Woods 2-4pm. £30 for 1 adult and child – includes all resources needed, campfire pizza, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows. Mud kitchen for children.
Christmas Craft Fair on Sunday 25th November at Aston Hall Hotel, where there will be approximately 80 stalls selling a huge range of festive crafts and gifts across three rooms!
FREE Magical Christmas Fair at Hackenthorpe Community Centre on Saturday 24th November 11am-3pm. There will be various stalls ranging from Christmas sweets and Treats to candles, jewellery, bags and books. All for those christmas stockings and extra special presents. Childrens christmas themed activities along with face painting and glitter tattoos will be there and hot and cold drinks available to purchase on the day along with buns, cakes and mince pies.
Christmas gift & craft fair at Wesley Hall, Crookes on Saturday. 10am-2pm with a variety of stalls, santa and food/drink.
Stocksbridge Community Leisure Centre Christmas Fayre on Sunday, 11am-4pm. Seasonal fun and treats for all the family, Christmas raffle, Santa’s grotto, festive music & more.
Cross Scythes Christmas Fair, Saturday, 2-7:30am, free entry.

Santa and his Elves will be at The Tropical Butterfly House from 17th November-24th December on weekends, then daily in Christmas school holidays. Santa’s grotto is open 11.00am – 4.00pm with allocated 5 minute slots only, if you would like to purchase a wrapped present from Santa this will be an additional cost of £7.00 payable on admission.
FREE Sensory experience at The Civic. Liz West: Colour Field is on until 22nd December. By creating vivid environments that use variety of mediums and fuse mix luminous colour and radiant light, West invites the viewer to explore how sensory phenomena can invoke psychological and physical responses that tap into our own deeply entrenched relationships to colour.
How about meeting Santa Underground? Even under 5’s can go! Visit Santa in his underground grotto at National Coal Mining Museum for England. Santa is 140m underground this Christmas, greeting mini miners and their friends. Tours 10am-4pm.
Enjoy a wonderfully magical theatrical experience at the Santa’s grotto at Meadowhall: Wish Upon A Star with Santa. We went earlier this week & was very impressed.
