Fancy playing in some sand? Nottingham Beach, Meadowhall Beach Club & Sheffield By The Seaside all have free sandpits.

And also at Meadowhall this Saturday is Emergency & Rescue Services Day with vehicles from the National Emergency Services Museum.

Classic Car Show at Cliffe House on Saturday, 10am-3pm, free entry with classic cars plus take a walk around 11 acres of mature woodlands and grounds, home to a fantastic woodland adventure playground for the little ones to enjoy.

Story time and Crafts at Waterstones in Orchard Square. Free. 11am story time & 3-4pm craft and story, plus free baby chino in cafe.

On Saturday at Fox Valley, Swing Back To The 60’s! 11-3pm with Vintage clothing, Flower power face painting, Children’s craft workshop- including tie dye & lots more.

Free beach at the Summer Fair going on at Abbey Grange Nursing Home 2-5pm on Saturday.

Newfield Green Street Party on Saturday 11-5pm, “There will be lots of activities available on the day including free healthy food, children’s activities, music and fitness demonstrations taking place.”

Fayres galore! On Saturday; Herries Lodge Summer Fayre in Sheffield, games, bouncy castle, stalls & refreshments.

It’s the huge Sheffield Film & Comic Con all weekend at FlyDSA Arena, Continuing to build on the success of the previous Film & Comic Con in Sheffield bringing more of your favourite stars from TV, Film and Comics as well as a whole host of fun activities including photo shoots with the stars, panels, autograph sessions and hundreds of stalls full of TV and Film Memorabilia to browse.

Family Fun Day & Classic Car Show at Temple Newsam in Leeds, fun day out for all the family on Sunday with hundreds of classic cars.

Why not try a day out in Leeds? We love doing it as it’s so quick & easy to get to. Plus at the moment is a free Piano Trail, pop up Beach in Millennium Square & T-rex in the Trinity.

Have a train ride with Thomas! Day Out With Thomas is at Kirklee’s Light Railway all weekend. Make your day a Day Out With Thomas as Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends Percy, Toby, Emily and Mavis, visit the Kirklees Light Railway from the Island of Sodor! Train rides, face painting, bouncy castle, fat controller, donkey rides & much more.

Make your day go further in Wakefield & visit Wakefield Museum (closed on Sundays), room on the broom trail and National Coal Mining Museum.

Infact, Seaside @ The Pit & Hope Pit Explore is currently on at National Coal Mining Museum For England, loads to do and a cheap day out, too.

Drop in to Worsborough Mill for Outdoor Art Sparks “Explore the sights and sounds of the country park through art and see nature in new ways” refundable deposit required, but free. We really loved Worsborough Mill & thought the playground, cafe and walks were lovely.

Bears! at The Cooper Gallery is fantastic; we went yesterday and I highly recommend it, it’s a FREE exhibition from Seven Stories, very interactive, engaging & all about teddy bears! It was really adorable, Eric loved the puzzles, stories and exploring the different rooms. Plus across the road is Experience Barnsley: another great, free museum. Double whammy!

Messy play with messy fingers, messy toes at Wadsley Church on Saturday 1:30-2-30pm, book in advance.

FREE Customer bike ride at Decathlon on Sunday setting off at 9:30am.

Crafting at Crafty Kids is a really lovely little place, plus there’s farm animals, a nice cafe and gift shops.

Outdoorsy ideas for this weekend

Climbing rocks at Mother Cap, Surprise View near Sheffield

Hunt for boggarts at Longshaw Estate, National Trust on the edge of Sheffield. It’s free! Plus you must go down for a picnic at Padley Gorge (and paddle, of course!)

Explore the lovely village of Castleton and visit Perevil Castle

There’s an outdoor swimming pool and fantastic playground in Hathersage; very worth a visit!

We love a walk around Ladybower Reservoir. Sooo picturesque 🙂

I really recommend finding Bamford Mill; it’s truly a hidden paradise, and there’s a new playground in Buxton, too!

Fancy a long walk but close to Sheffield? Try walking from Grindleford to Hathersage via Bolehill Quarry; I love this walk!

Tissington Trail is a wonderful flat path running all the way from Ashbourne to Buxton. You can cycle, scoot, walk or run! We did a few miles from Ashbourne and highly recommend it. Dovedale and Ilam Park are close by and wonderful.

Sheffield Botanical Gardens is free to visit, open daily and really worth a visit. it’s beautiful and has a good cafe, lovely toy shop and little areas to explore.

Renishaw Hall & Gardens: a stunning country estate with private house. Award winning gardens with trails, children’s garden, sculptures, water features and cafe. Their crafts fair is on this weekend.

We love a day out at Low Bradfield & walks around Damflask Reservoir – not far from north Sheffield, with playground, places to eat, bowling green and countryside walks
