Hello everyone & welcome back to a weekend roundup and… the first December roundup of the year! Are you all feeling festive?!?! I sure am!!  What’s on this weekend in and around Sheffield for kids December 1/2

I’m actually writing this roundup on Monday 26th; we are going to Manchester tomorrow so on Wednesday, the usual roundup day I’ll be super busy. And I can’t afford to miss posting the first December roundup of the year!! We’ll also be getting our first real Christmas tree ever on Thursday! I’m so excited.

I’ll keep this one short as I get the feeling as the weeks go by and closer to Christmas everyone has already made their weekend plans well ahead of time, especially for things that require booking/tickets. But for those of you who are still stuck and need ideas have no fear because they’ll be loads here to choose from.

The weekend is the perfect time to do the Sheffield Christmas Trail and Santa’s Post Office in Sheffield city centre! Both are FREE. For the trail you can download a free app or booklet here  (or pick one up from the post office). Complete the trail & return to the post office for a gift. There’s lots more to do in the city centre for free and festive too, check this list for ideas.

Magical Makers Emporium at Kelham Island Museum is this weekend; also known as Kelham Island Christmas fayre! A very popular one. Lots of stalls and shopping opportunities, rides, crafts, grotto & more. Our review from last year here.

The Hepworth Wakefield Christmas Market – Weekend Two. Friday-Sunday, 10am-5pm. 80 independent makers, festive performances, FREE family Paper Decoration activity.

Get crafty at Weston Park Museum on the 1st December. Christmas: Festive Factory has lots of crafts for your little ones to get stuck in, take home or even give as gifts! Drop in 12-3pm, suggested donation £2.

Alfred Denny Museum at University of Sheffield open day is this Saturday. It’s only open on the first Saturday of every month, it’s free and well worth a visit. Eric loved seeing all the animals and skeletons (our visit here). Book on the tour here.

The indoor & outdoor illuminated rooms at Valleyside Garden Centre (near crosspool) look beautiful, as do the decorations, including singing reindeer. It’s free to visit.

Santa’s Christmas parade (Saturday), plus Christmas light switch on (Saturday) AND a firework finale (Sunday) at Matlock Victorian Christmas Market 2018.

A day out in Elsecar is always lovely. We love the heritage centre and fantastic park. But this weekend check out the Christmas Craft & Gift Fair on Saturday & Sunday with over 95 stalls. And on Saturday there’s free crafting Christmas tree decorations at the visitors centre: Elsecar heritage centre 11am-2pm.

FREE ‘Pirate Christmas’ at Fox Valley on Saturday 1st December. Pirate themed crafts, treasure hunt & more 10am-2:30pm, plus a A Pirate Christmas’ nativity performance at the bandstand at 11, 12 and 1.

Julesfest 2018 on Saturday at Clifford COF School… “Clifford’s annual Scandinavian Christmas Market! Visit the ski lodge, sample the gløgg, start your Christmas shopping by visiting our wonderful local stallholders, eat cake, make craft and visit Father Christmas in his very own Christmas grotto!”

The Christmas trail at Rufford Abbey starts this weekend, £1 for a sheet. 1st December-6th January… “Our head elf Abbie Peppermint Glitterpants and her naughty sidekick Eric are tired after working so hard to prepare for Christmas and they need your help to bring their Christmas sparkle back by finding all the items that make the festive season so special”

Choose a real Christmas tree at Sheffield Christmas Tree Company from Saturday 17th November. A children’s treasure hunt, Christmas bouncy castle and Christmas Shetland ponies are there for the kids! Plus a log cabin cafe and Christmas goodies gift shop.

Last chance to see Barnsley Bright Lights; illuminations, bright colours and installations across the town centre. Bright lights parade starts at 5pm at Barnsley Market. And Christmas At The Town Hall 10am-3pm, elf activities, craft stalls & more.

Watch Santa arrive by vintage bus to Clifton Park & Museum for Santa dash on Sunday. The Clifton park and museum Christmas fair all weekend with stalls, food, drink & more.

St Luke’s – Festival of Light 2018 from 5pm on Sunday. Festival of Light is our annual festive celebration where the St Luke’s garden is illuminated by thousands of lights, each dedicated to a loved one. It’s an uplifting evening to reflect, remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones, with support from others around you.

Big Fish Little Fish Sheffield on Sunday at The Leadmill from 2pm. An old skool rave set from Mark XTC with his mix of classic rave tunes on a multi-sensory dance floor with confetti cannons, bubbles, giant balloons and parachute dance finale. Craft tables with themed crafts, large colouring-in mural and playdough tables. Play area with tents and tunnels and baby chillout space with mats and soft-play ball pool. Free transfers and glowsticks.

Christmas celebration at RIVA Project in Wisewood on Sunday. 3:30pm, meet father Christmas and his reindeer, Mary and Joseph, refreshments, choir and bouncy castle.

Tales from the Gallery – Story Telling for Under 5s on Sunday at Yorkshire Sculpture park.

It’s free to visit the Christmas farm at Woolley Edge Christmas Tree Farm in Wakefield, WF4 2LQ. Watch Santa feed his reindeer at 10am prompt on weekends from 24th November. In additional, there’s a genuine Scandinavian sleigh decorated for families to sit in and have a photo taken for free on your phone/cameras. There is no charge for this and a charity donation box is provided.

IKEA Sheffield have a free winter fete on Saturday 1st-Sunday 2nd December, which includes biscuit decorating, interactive games, plate decorating, colouring, and arts and crafts.
