For us we are going on a few coach trips and it’s also Eric’s 4th birthday at the end of October. It’ll be a busy month. Anyway, back to the roundup… there’s a lot going on this weekend for Fun Palaces; a weekend festival to celebrate local people sharing skills and tiny revolutions. Which means LOTS OF FREE things to do! 😀

I’ve included all of the activities and events on for fun palaces in this roundup along with lots of lovely days out, recommendations, reviews and family friendly local events. Have a wonderful weekend 🙂

Weather suitable days out for this weekend

Weather should be dry on saturday but very wet on Sunday…

Find Conkers in the park at Weston Park Museum; there’s loads near the water! And of course, have fun in the museum itself… free entry!

There’s loads of conkers in Hillsborough Park, too. And why not double it up with a swim at Hillsborough Leisure Centre?

See the gorgeous colours of autumn in the woods this weekend. We love these ones.

Norfolk Heritage Park has a lovely autumn trail with big wide paths. And you’ll love the rest of the park… an amazing playground, cafe and sports facilities.

This time of year it’s a good idea to visit somewhere with an amazing garden or outdoor space. Find conkers, have a picnic with a jacket on, and take lovely photos with the colours of autumn around you. I recommend any of these places here for an outdoor day out and a picnic.

I really recommend Sheffield botanical Gardens, it’s free and just so so wonderful. Take a picnic or there’s a cafe.

If you need something indoors, check out soft plays here, play cafes here, or amazing interactive museums here.

National Coal mining museum in Wakefield is FREE and good for both indoor & outdoor. We loved it there.

Find somewhere fun to swim this weekend by looking at this guide for swimming pools here. I recommend Doncaster Dome for somewhere fun with slides and a toddler area.

Look how great this looks: Northwood Trail near York. Fairy sanctuary!

Speaking of York, what about a free day out at the National Railway Museum? Or for indoor & outdoor fun, have you heard of Web Adventure Park (also in York)?

Last autumn we had a really lovely day out at Harlow Carr in Harrogate and now I can’t stop thinking about going back. It was just so amazing with all the autumn colours and we had a really fun time in the playgrounds. It’s beautiful there and I highly recommend it for all the family.

Have you been to Experience Barnsley Museum? It’s lovely for little ones with lots to play with. It’s free. You could also visit Cooper Gallery or go swimming at Barnsley Metrodome.

For something BIG with lots to do… why not consider White Post Farm in Nottinghamshire? It’s close to Wheelgate, Rufford Abbey and Sherwood pines. There’s loads to do at white post farm inside and outside, animals, picnic areas and a huuuuge farm. Wheelgate has rides, play areas inside & outside, shows, maze and farm. Rufford Abbey is free and good for a walk with a good playground. And Sherwood Pines offers the perfect place for a forest wander, and has play areas.

Ideas for the best days out in South Yorkshire
