Let’s take a quick look at the weather for this weekend… this last week has been such a mix up, I’ve been to a splash park for the first time this year and then a few days later was completely soaked from heavy downpours of rain. It’s completely up and down! I’m really hoping for some nice warm weather which stays put. Where is Spring?!

Room on the broom adventure trail anglers country park Half Term Round Up: 71 Fun Things To Do In and Around Sheffield For Half Term What's on this weekend in/near Sheffield for Kids April 14/15
Room on the broom adventure trail at Anglers Country Park

The Room on The Broom adventure trail at Anglers Country Park is brilliant. There’s a cafe, visitors centre, playground and the trail itself. The trail and admission is completely free, it is optional to purchase an activity pack for a few quid from the visitors centre. It is very muddy. Buses from Wakefield are straight forward enough! Really recommend it, read this review here to find out more & see photos.

Since I mention that one quite a lot, here’s some more: Botanical Gardens in Sheffield (find the bear pit, count how many squirrels you see & visit the cafe) or free trail for Weston Park Museum in Sheffield.

One for… indoors

Why not have a picnic in Winter Gardens, Sheffield’s huge greenhouse in the city centre? It’s really beautiful, has a lovely cafe/deli with seating inside and gift shops. I really recommend the Sheffield Makers shop; they have lovely handmade children’s clothes! If the weather is nice, try this playground just off West Street. Here’s more ideas for family friendly things to do in Sheffield City Centre.

Or, try Kelham Island Museum, £6 adults, free under 16’s. It’s big, has lots of things to touch, see, a museum trail, and a fab little indoor play area with ball pit, slides, puzzles, games, colouring & more.

(Plus swimming, soft play, cinema and much more!…)

One for… local

The Wonderful Hillsborough Walled Garden, Sheffield - Free Day Out
The Wonderful Hillsborough Walled Garden, Sheffield – Free Day Out

If the weather is nice this weekend I recommend you visit Hillsborough Park and Walled Garden, the walled garden is a little hidden gem & you’re welcome to use this free trail I made for you to make it even more fun! Take a picnic.

For more little things to do locally, why not go for a walk behind Sheffield train station? There’s little paths suitable for pushchairs, the Sheffield Amphitheatre and you can follow the paths up to Cholera Woods & eventually, Norfolk Heritage Park. The train station is great for… yep, train spotting! The playgrounds at Norfolk Heritage park are currently being refurbished so they’re out of use but you can still enjoy the rest of the park & the cafe (with indoor picnic space, too)

One for… train adventure

It’s quicker than you might think to get to the seaside, a bit of sunshine & why not head to Cleethorpes? Make the most of it! Trains only take 1hr 45minute and there’s lots to do whilst you’re there; it can be a very cheap day out, too. Read this for how to enjoy the seaside in colder months!

A fun day trip for indoor adventures would have to be MSI Museum in Manchester. It’s fast to get to Manchester by train, then hop on a freebie bus which goes just around the corner from the museum. Loads to do in the museum & it’s free. What’s on this weekend in/near Sheffield for Kids April 14/15

What are you doing this weekend?

It’s my partners birthday this weekend, so lots of fun stuff planned. On Saturday we are heading to Leeds & plan to go the Thackray Medical Museum (never been!) and eat at Trinity Kitchen, somewhere we love. I’m excited as I love trying new things, we visit Leeds often but haven’t done that museum before. If you’ve been I’d love to know what you thought. We might even make the free water taxi too, it’s so fun. Read about that here… you have to do it sometime!
