Finding good play centres can be a hassle. There are lots to choose from, wherever you go. I always ask myself… Is it worth the money? Is it clean? Is the food good? Is it safe?
I went to Kiddy Winx play cafe in Rotherham with a group of friends with babies ranging from a few months up until preschool. We had a lovely time. It was clean, friendly and fun!
Kiddy winx play cafe is a learn and play cafe in Thurnscoe, Rotherham. It is dedicated only for children under 5 and is split into two main areas which encourage imaginative play. There is a cafe serving hot food, kids food, cakes, soft drinks and coffees. An activity room hosts classes and regular activities suitable for babies and toddlers.
I went to Kiddy Winx with a group from my Sheffield parents meet up community from Facebook. I arranged a booking with Kiddy Winx for approx 15 children and adults. I contacted Kiddy Winx directly by Facebook messenger to plan this group visit, and they were nothing but helpful from the beginning.
The management are very happy to meet any dietary rewuirements and will do their very best to make you happy. Vegan, allergies are all catered for and soy milk is available for hot drinks.
My group had a kids buffet, play and adult hot drink deal for £5. We could upgrade for a cake for £1 extra. The kids buffet included sandwiches, bowls of fruit, cucumber sticks and other vegetable finger foods, biscuits, crisps and water/juice. This is really good value, especially for over 1 year old; play centres can get expensive and the food can be bad quality. I was really happy with the money I paid and the food was fresh.
There is a variety of toys in both play areas, Baby Jungle for under 2’s and Kiddy Winx Village for 2-5.
Play centres and soft plays can get repetitive; but there was original play equipment here that I haven’t seen elsewhere. The Kiddy Winx village focuses on role play and imaginative play with a pretend bakery, shop, garage and laurndrette.
It was great to see a play centre with toys that my son hasn’t played with before or that we don’t have at home. The Kiddy Winx Village inspires children to learn through play and it’s really nice to see Kiddy Winx encourage this.
Kiddy Winx have a variety of classes and activities for children to get involved with. Running all week, there is baby yoga, baby massage, creation station classes, baby led weaning parties, sensory disco and many more. We were able to use the activity room for a sensory disco which was a big space with yoga balls, disco lights and toys.
The staff were very friendly and the facilities are clean. The cafe is safe, attractive and a good place for little ones to play whilst parents catch up with each other.
I would definitely return in future if I had a car. The only draw back is using public transport from Sheffield the journey is two buses or a train ride. I caught the train which was 30 minutes then a 14 minute walk from the Goldthorpe station. The fair was £7.40 for anytime day return. The other option is two buses, with a journey time of 1 hour 44 minutes.
With a little one, this travel time is a little too much for a play centre. It is a real shame as I really like the place, so did my son and my friends. I will definitely return if I can get there another time. If you drive or live locally, or can get a lift, do check it out!
Thank you for having us, Kiddy Winx.
