Last year on one of our many days out to Leeds, we found something really amazing and I have to let you in on this little hidden gem. Instead of walking to Royal Armouries museum… ride a FREE water taxi down the canal! Yep… free of charge… just a donation tin for you to pop some change in. It’s so simple yet it’s genius… a free water taxi! Why the heck not?! Kids love it… it’s a novelty… adults love it… it’s great for selfies… and it totally is the cherry on the top for a free day out in Leeds. So, what is the Leeds Water Taxi I hear you say?
Leeds Water Taxi
These water taxis in Leeds go on one route only, from Granary Wharf (outside the station) to Leeds Dock (outside the armouries).
To find the boat stop you just need to look out for the yellow flag… for granary wharf it’s around the back of the train station, across from Hilton Hotel and the boat is low down on the canal so you have to take a few steps to board on. If the boat isn’t there, just wait, it won’t be long until one of them are on their way back to you.
The scenic journey takes 12 minutes along the canal in the Leeds Water Taxi, just the perfect time for a toddlers attention span. Eric loves it… he can stand up on the seat and look out of the window. It’s so fun! You have to experience it. Ahoy Matey!
The free Leeds Water Taxi’s run:
Everyday Mon-Fri, 7am-7pm and Sat–Sun, 10am-7pm
When you reach the other side where the Royal Armouries is, entry is free to this museum so go and explore! We like Royal Armouries and there’s more than enough to see.
Wouldn’t your kid love this?! Have you already been on it?
