Fairies & The Wonderful Hillsborough Walled Garden, Sheffield – Free Day Out

I really think Hillsborough Park Walled Garden is a wonderful place. We have just moved to Hillsborough and this is a beautiful place I’m so glad I live close by. I recommend a visit to everyone, it’s free, too. A fantastic day out for kids and there’s plenty to do in the park. You can find it at in Hillsborough Park next to Middlewood Road, 70 Broughton Rd, Sheffield S6 2AS and dates back to 1779. The Wonderful Hillsborough Walled Garden, Sheffield – Free Day Out

Inside the walls you’ll discover fairytale gardens, wonderful plants and flowers, fairy houses, tea cups, quotes, picnic spaces and… lots of Squirrel Nutkins!

Eric loves looking around the walled garden exploring, finding the magical creatures and taking nuts to feed all the of the Squirrel Nutkins. Peter Rabbit fans here!

Unfortunately it was a pretty wet day when we went and I took these photos, but it just shows you can enjoy the park and garden whatever the weather! The puddle suit for Eric has been so handy throughout the seasons. I’ll definitely be taking some nice sunny photos here on a nicer day and hoping we can enjoy a picnic in the sun. 🙂

There’s SO many squirrels in the pond area at the back (through the gate) with a little pond. The fairy house is so cute with windows and some washing hanging outside their house. Magical for little children!

The lovely arches are nice to walk under which are really picturesque. The volunteers do a fantastic job with keeping the walled garden a pleasant space. Benches to sit and ponder are a plenty and you’ll be surprised to find the wishing ivy corner with teapot and even a yellow boat full of flowers.

There is a designated picnic area with benches and bins in the walled garden, too, and playground just next to it in the park. You really can have a good day out there. And best of all, it’s all free.

What a great place to visit and all for free! Perfect for filling in an hour outdoors with a little one. That fairy house has inspired me, I think I’m going to pin it as something for Farmer Nick to build for our fairy garden. We have just named our new bunnies after the Peter Rabbit books so I’m right into all things themed from here right now. I bet a picnic in these gardens on a summer’s day would be magical, even in the damp you can see the charm.
