Springfield / Gell Street Playground, Sheffield

This is one of my favourite small playgrounds in Sheffield. Whilst it isn’t in a park, being in town makes it so convenient. We typically combine this with shopping, city centre events, Sheffield children’s library or just visit when passing by.

I love it because it’s well maintained, the equipment seems new and there’s a good variety of things to do. There’s 2 climbing frames, swing set, spinning dish, basket swing, large circular spinning table, rockers, mini trampolines, and a few other pieces.

There are a few benches and little spaces to picnic in the fenced area. It is right next to Springfield School and is never busy during term time (we usually have the playground to ourselves!)

Eric loves this playground. It’s all fenced in making it very safe and there’s no where to lose your little ones with good visibility all around.

The nearest toilets would be any cafe/department store, etc., in the local area as the playground doesn’t have any of its own.

I do consider this playground to be in the city centre despite the S3 postcode. It is just 1 minute or so walk from West Street or University tram stops and just a stones throw away from Devonshire Green.

In autumn this playground is covered in huge leaves and is a great spot for leave crunching!
