Sheffield Winter Garden is the largest urban glasshouse in Europe. What, really? Yes, and it’s lovely! Free to visit all year round and only closed on Christmas Day. Find it at 90 Surrey St, Sheffield S1 2LH.
Sheffield Winter Garden is home to over 2,000 plants and is in the heart of the city, next to Peace Gardens. Completely covered and never less than 4 degrees, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a picnic in the city centre all year round. We love it and always go when we’re in town.
Sheffield Makers Shop and grab-and-go cafe/deli Zooby’s is inside Winter Gardens. Zooby’s offer kids picnic boxes, paninis, baguettes, coffees, ice creams and soft drinks.
Winter Garden is fun for little ones… the winding paths, huge giant leaves and pretty flowers, animals to spot, little “fairy ponds” to throw pennies in and… can you find the troll up high? 😉
Millennium Galleries is adjoined to the Winter Garden and is free. The shop is nice and a new restaurant just opened March 2019. Inside the steel collection room is a little tea set in the corner to play with.
Just across the road is Sheffield Central Library and the children’s library is a lovely place to go when you’re in town. Lots of books, bean bags, few toys and colouring table.
Throughout the year many events and goings on happen inside the Winter Gardens. In summer people spill out onto Millennium Square to appreciate the steel ball artworks and Peace Gardens. 🙂
