I love summer. There’s so much happening! I love the long hot days, the summer fairs, picnics, festivals, park days and summer vibes. There is just such an amazing atmosphere in summer. We are lucky enough here in Yorkshire to have so much happening in summer, throughout the months of June – September there are too many events and days out to choose from! if you’re wondering what’s on this summer for families in Sheffield then look no further. Here’s a list of the top 10 family events happening all across Sheffield, South Yorkshire and beyond to keep you busy. There’s a big variety to choose from, loads of things for all ages. It’s going to be a good one!

Throughout the summer – Kirklees light railway days out with Thomas. Dates in the summer include Saturday 10th/11th June, Saturday 15th/16th July, Friday 18th/20th August. Book in advance to avoid disappointment, fares start at £13 for adults, £11 for 2-11 year olds and free for under 2s.

Saturday 3rd-Sunday 4th – AmphiFest 2017, South Street park Amphitheatre, Sheffield. Two day free festival, Saturday 12-7pm and Sunday 10-5pm. Music, food, drama, dance, kids crafts and entertainment, community brunch and much more.

Saturday 10th June – Peace in the park festival at Ponderosa park, Sheffield, 12-8pm, free. Music, peace and love!

Saturday 1st July – Sharrow festival, Mount pleasant park Sheffield, 12-8pm, free.

Saturday 15th/Sunday 16th JulyBuxton Pavilion Gardens Summer fete, 10-5pm, free. Stalls, playgrounds, cafe and family entertainment in a beautiful historical park and old spa town.

Throughout summer holidaysWeston Park Museum family events – lots going on including summer holidays discovery days every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 1-4pm. Exploring Egypt 25-27th July, pop-up puppets 1-3rd august, the house that you built! 8-10th august, tiny things for tiny homes, 15-17th august, handmade dolls and superheroes, 29-31st august. summer holidays cutlery monsters, 27rd and 28th 11am-2pm, Sheffield nature fest Saturday 29th July 10-4pm and nature fest bat walk Saturday 29th 8:30-10:30pm, small stories family fun day Saturday 5th august 11am-4pm. All free but suggested donations.

Saturday 2nd July – 3rd September –  Eureka! The National Children’s museum summer festival, running daily throughout summer and included in standard entry.

Sunday 2nd JulySt Luke’s Hospice The Hare and hatter’s walk at Ecclesall Woods, Sheffield. 1-5pm, an imaginative sponsored 5k walk to help raise funds for charity. Ticket prices start at £16 for adult.

Saturday 22nd July- 5th SeptemberAmazing animals summer holiday event at Tropical Butterfly House, Sheffield. Superhero crafts, competitions and animal shows all included in standard entry price all summer.

Thursday 27 July – Monday 28 August – Sheffield by the seaside, Peace Gardens, free. Sheffield Peace Gardens transforms into the beach for summer with stalls, sand pits, water and family fun activities.

Thursday August 10th-13th, Dino farm live show at Cannon Hall Farm, 10:30-5pm, advance tickets £9.95 and gate price £14.95

Sunday 13th August –  South Yorkshire festival at Wortley Hall, Sheffield, free admission all day, 12-5pm. Annual summer event with fun for all the family.

Sunday 13th August – Low Edges festival, Sheffield s8, free entry, 12-5:30pm. Includes stalls, huge beach with sandpits, music, car show and more.

Saturday August 19th-Sunday 30th – Gloworm festival at Clumber Park. The true family friendly festival with an amazing line-up and lots of family fun taking place at Clumber Park. Camping is available, tickets start from £27.50 for adult and £11 for over 3’s. See here for tickets.

Saturday 19th AugustEveryones festival at Manor fields park, Sheffield. Free entry. Local festival for everyone with music, activities and rides to celebrate diversity and inclusivity for the local community.

Saturday 2nd-3rd September – Elsecar by the sea at Elsecar Heritage Centre, 10-4pm, free. Family event with seaside entertainment, beer festival, steam trains and more.

Friday 25th august- Tuesday 26th September – The smartest giant in Town outdoors cinema at Harewood house, Leeds. Open air cinema showings of the popular Julia Donaldson book, tickets start from £2 for kids and £12 for adults.

Monday 28th August, Sheffield fayre and show at Norfolk Heritage Park, free entry, 10:30-5:30pm. Major event in Sheffield with stalls, family entertainment, rides, kids crafts, animals and much more.

Friday 1st-Sunday 3rd September – Chatsworth House country fair. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Chatsworth House and full of family entertainment, this traditional fair has something for everyone. Tickets start from £25 on the day, but is cheaper booked in advance. See here for tickets.

Sunday 10th SeptemberFamily fun day at Millhouses park, Sheffield. 11-4:30pm, craft stalls, playgrounds and water play, food, stalls and family entertainment.

Wow! So many great things happening, it’s hard to choose; and hard to believe that this is just a selection!
