Last year, we went on a family holiday to Haven for the first time. You can read about our experience here when we stayed at the Blue Dolphin site in Filey. We really enjoyed it, it was great value for money, so we booked again. This time, we had a family holiday at Haven Reighton sands, again in Filey. We wanted to try a different site but in the same area. There are some good days out local to the parks in Scaborough, Bridlington and Filey areas. My mum came with us on this holiday, she has not been away in years so she was really looking forward to it!

First impressions and caravan

Our first impressions was that the park was nice and clean, landscaped and looked pretty. It was small but had great sea views. We were able to check in early as we arrived in open day so all the holiday homes were ready and waiting. This time we had upgraded to a prestigue self catering caravan and it was such a big difference in quality compared to the standard from our previous stay. I really recommend them. It was so roomy,  highspec and had nice furniture. The beds were made up on arrival. We were able to relax in there and felt at home, whereas the standard caravan previously felt just somewhere to sleep. We ordered tesco groceries to be delivered to the caravan that afternoon, all of the essentials such as cutlery and crockery were provided.

Park facilities

Hawkwood restaurant and bar

The park had playgrounds, direct beach access, indoor pool, nature trail, activities, golf course, supermarket, arcade, refurbished Showbar and renovated Hawkwood bar and restaurant. The entertainment complex looked brand new, it was bright and refreshed. Inside the entertainment complex we enjoyed eating and drinking at the Hawkwood bar and restaurant. The staff were always welcoming and it had a really nice atmosphere in there. There was a lot of space, nice decor and furniture, and lots of outside space with a playground.

The arcade was small but everything worked, there was no disappointments there, although the soft play area was a small play frame in the corner of the arcade which could have been a little better.

The indoor pool was clean and pleasant. We did a few of the water confidence activities which are for babies and toddlers. The outdoor lazy river looked really fun but it wasn’t the weather for it. In the pool section was a paint pottery studio, too.

The daytime entertainment was okay. There was swimming activities, naturerockz activities (like rockpooling and firelighting), Seaside quad pop concerts, meet and greets, puppet show, some craft sessions amongst other things but not a lot for Eric’s age (1 and a half). However, he was happy enough with the arcade, the beach and the seaside squad pop concerts in the evening. The playground was better suited to bigger kids, it was a shame there was no baby swing.

The beach access was really good. There was direct beach access was a minute walk down a hill, straight onto 5 miles of sandy beach. A tractor trailer, which Eric loved, took people down every 15 minutes. This was free of change and lots of fun! The beach was sooo nice.

Morning beach stroll

We enjoyed cliff top walks, a 3 mile stroll on the beach to filey town, and days out to Scarborough and Bridlington. Unfortunately the weather was not in our favour that week; it was cold, wet and windy most of the time, but we tried to make the most of it.

The majority of nearby attractions were closed as it was out of season; so keep this in mind if you plan to have lots of day trips. We went to sealife centre in Scarborough and sewerby hall and gardens in Bridlington. There is still much to do close to the par even out of season. A bus to Bridlington or Scarborough stops right in reighton sands by the supermarket. We had an easy going week and spent most of our days just on the park using the facilities.

Unfortunately whilst we were my iPhone broke and we lost a lot of footage and pictures. It was really upsetting, but these things happen, I guess. Here are some photos from our stay, to see the park and facilities please watch our video.
