Top 5 free things to do in Sheffield for kids
It’s free to visit Weston Park Museum!
It won’t cost you go to Weston park museum, there’s lots of interactive play areas for kids to enjoy, animals to see, books to read, family fun (and free) activities, cafe, picnic room and gift shop. It makes a great day out and you can explore the park, too. Don’t forget Crookes Valley Park just behind has a playground!
There’s a free farm at Graves Park.
This farm and park costs nothing to visit and there’s lots to do there. You’ll find a farm which is free and the kids will love seeing the animals, a cafe, woodland walks, ducks, sports and good playgrounds with sandpits.
You can find Graves Park at Cobnar Rd, Sheffield S8 9FL.
Explore at National Trust’s Longshaw Estate.
It’s free to visit Longshaw Estate, easy to get to by bus, and if you are members of the NT, parking is free as well. You can hunt for bogarts on the Bogart trail, have fun in the play areas, enjoy a picnic down at padley gorge, see the ducks and get the best views across the Peak District. Don’t forget to take a camera.

Go and play in your local children’s library.
Children’s libraries are a fantastic indoors, free and easy thing to do and we have so many great ones in Sheffield. My favourites are the children’s library at Sheffield Central Library in the city centre. Eric enjoys playing with the toys, soft animals and reading some books. I really recommend Park Library, too, which is a very nice space for children with their own little reading area, sofa, bean bags, table with wooden puzzles, imaginary toys and more than enough to keep them occupied.
Go for a lovely family walk.
Sheffield is not short on good walks, lovely woodlands and fantastic parks being the greenest city in Europe there is plenty of outdoor space, and we are right on the edge of the Peak District too: so no excuse than to get outdoors and explore!
Our favourites are Forge Dam, Endcliffe Park, Hathersage, Longshaw/Padley Gorge, Graves Park and Heeley People’s Park. But there so many more! For something different, try Sheffield Manor Lodge or Sheffield General Cemetery.
