February Spring half term Sheffield & South Yorkshire: what’s on 2019
Looking for things to do during February half term in and around Sheffield? Here’s a roundup full of activities, days out inspiration and recommendations. There’s something for everyone!

I’m writing this early so you have time to prepare so there’s a few things to note before you get stuck in. Do save this post and keep coming back; I’ll be adding events as I find them, some attractions/places have not announced just yet.
And secondly, the weather can be super unpredictable at this time of year so scroll to the bottom for lists which are weather dependent. 🙂
Just FYI… Sheffield February Spring half term dates for 2019 are: February Monday 18th-Friday 22nd February.
Half term in the farmyard and playground at Chatsworth House, 16 February 2019–24 February. Crafts and activities on throughout the week including pirate crafts, tractor rides, small animal handling.
Visit Kirklee’s Light Railway 16th-24th February in fancy dress and get half price admission.
Fairies garden trail at Brodsworth Hall & Gardens. Saturday 16th – Sunday 24th February. Psst, did you see that? Fairies are hiding all around the gardens of Brodsworth Hall and we need your help to find them. Pick up your trail sheet from the visitor centre and head out on an adventure. You might even stumble upon a fairy village as you go!
Lambing Festival at Cannon Hall Farm, February 16-February 24. Tickets are £8.95 per person for all day admission or £34 for a family of four. Including feeding demonstrations, live demos, indoor and outdoor play.
Stick man family fun event on Monday 18th at Austerfield Study Centre & Community Hub in Manchester. £5, booking essential.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Little Learners session at Doncaster Scawsby Scout Hut, 10am… “There’ll be themed messy play trays as well as painting, play dough, drawing, colouring. You’ll get chance to make a themed craft and take it home too!”.
Toy & games handling session at Clifton Park & Museum, free, Monday 18th, 1-3pm.
Family activities at Cannon Hall Museum. Virtual Vessels Monday 18th-Wednesday 20th interactive experience in a virtual space. Childrens Cookery Club for 5+ years Tuesday 19th and Enchanted Forest Adventures Wednesday 20th February.
Monday 18th & Tuesday 19th: Free Crafting the Cosmos free drop in activity 11am-2pm at Cooper Gallery, Barnsley
Children’s School Holiday Crafts at Sheffield Manor Lodge. Starts February 18th-February 21st. Candle making, snowflake sun catcher and winter bauble crafts. Plus sandpit, labyrinth maze, ruins and outside games. Crafts 11am-3pm. £4 per crafter. Don’t forget to explore the grounds and find the slide, too.
Medieval Mayhem at Bolsover Castle, Monday 18th-Friday 22nd. Step back in time and have Medieval fun this February half-term. Listen to the stories about adventurous times past, learn some honourable fighting techniques in the sword school and make sure to take part in the other (somewhat smelly!) cheeky medieval mayhem activities.
Gruffalo Day at Boston Park Farm, Tuesday 19th, 10-4pm. Gruffalo meet and greet, crafts, hunt, plus farm, outdoor play and more.
Half Term at Magna Mayhem at Magna Science Adventure Centre. Monday 18th to Friday 22nd February. Standard sessions 12 and 2pm for 0-15 years, mini mayhem 10:30am and are for under 5s only. Autism Friendly SEND Mayhem session is on Thursday 21st at 2pm.
Mirror Mirror at Doncaster CAST, February 20, 2:30pm, £8, children £6 under 16.
Children’s Craft Activities at Dronfield Hall Barn, starting 20th February. Free. More details to be announced soon.
Free drop-in story time at Experience Barnsley Museum with Chris Cade. Sessions approximately 30 minutes long suitable for all ages. 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm & 3:30pm on Wednesday 20th, Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd.
Amazing Animals at Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery…. “Go wild making animal-themed crafts like models, masks, and puzzles, and take a closer look at objects from Heritage Doncaster’s natural history collection”. Thursday 21st, 10:30am-3pm.
Nature Explorers at Worsborough Mill & Museum. Thursday 21st-Friday 22nd February. Visit our learning hut with your little ones, where the animals and plants of Worsbrough Mill will be brought to life to tell their stories using our interactive Museum in a Box! Then join artist Sarah Jane Palmer to explore the country park and use nature to inspire storytelling and creative making.
Tweedy’s Illusion Confusion – A Show of Magic and Mayhem. 22nd February 2pm. Tickets £8, £6 for under 16’s. Over the years Tweedy has assisted some of the world’s top magicians, resulting in him being sawn in half, disappeared and even turned into a tiger. More mayhem than magic in this fantastically funny, family friendly show.
DON’T MISS! Bi-centenary party for the Tinsley Sheffield Canal on Friday 22nd. There will be giant story book storytelling by the river, silent disco and authoress Carmel Page, music, comedy and poetry and so much more.

Half term at Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife & Falconry Centre, Sheffield is always a great place to be. You can expect crafts, tractor rides, animal demonstrations and lots more.
Lots happening at Weston Park Museum! Discovery Days: Half term Monday 19th-Thursday 21st 12-3pm drop in. Leonardo Discovery Days – Eyes in the Right Place! Friday 22nd, 12-3pm. All are drop in and donation of £2.
Kelham Island Museum: The Invention Station: Soap Bubble Painting, February 19th, 10am-1pm, drop in. Free with museum admission. And Creative Works: Fantastic Flowers on February 20th, 10am-1pm, drop in. Free with museum admission.
Handmade Cinema Dinosaur Workshop on Friday 22nd, free, 12-3pm.
Tots on the farm – The Scarecrow’s Wedding (1-2:30pm) at Whirlow Hall Farm, February 23rd February. No tickets currently available, but there is a waiting list you can join.

Try Ice Skating in Leeds at Ice Cube. On February 1-24th in Millennium Square. Ice skating, water themed rides & attraction, entertainment and more.
Operation Ouch! Half term at National Science & Media Museum, Bradford, 16-24th February. Featuring action-packed activities, awesome experiments, behind-the-scenes footage, sneak peeks and challenges for all the family, it’s science with the gross bits left in! Plus don’t miss the free permanent gallery of Wonderlab.
The very popular JORVIK Viking Festival in York, on 20-27th February. ecognised as the largest event of its kind in Europe, the annual JORVIK Viking Festival is a city-wide celebration of York’s rich Norse heritage. Huge programme of events.
Funny Face Masks at Wakefield Museum, Wednesday 20th February, free.
Nature Tots at Cliffe Castle Museum & Park in Keighley. February 23rd. Join us at Cliffe Castle Museum and Park for nature play, stories and crafts for pre-schoolers. Lots of seasonal activities will be on offer! Places must be booked.
LEGO Movie Days at Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester throughout half term. Movie, character appearances, building, crafts and much, much more.
Clay Creations: Gargoyles at Pontefract Castle, Wednesday 20th February, free suitable for 6-11 year olds.
See Chase & Marshall from Paw Patrol at Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, 20-21st February. The heroic pups will be making appearances in Oxenhope Exhibition Shed based at Oxenhope Station throughout the day. Plus they’ll be crafts, colouring, balloon making and much more.
Enchanted Fairy Trail at Rufford Abbey Country Park, February 9-24th, £2 per person for a trail sheet. Put on your fairy wings and follow the trail around Rufford Abbey’s Enchanted Forest to discover a world of mystery. Hunt down the enchanted miniature houses, find the king and queen of the fairies, walk through our wonky archways to find our resident dragon and tell your secrets to Rainbow Sunbeam wishing fairy.
The Piece Hall have a sculpture spotting trail on, 26th February -7th April. Drop into our Welcome Centre and collect a sculpture trail which will take you on a journey around The Piece Hall. Find out more about The Blanket and other local sculptures. Each completed trail receives a prize.

- MSI Museum in Manchester; free entry and one of our favourite museums in England.
- Make a special trip to Thinktank Museum in Birmingham, a huge museum with just about everything and something for all ages. The best museum we visited in 2018.
- Weston Park Museum, Sheffield. Free entry and popular with children for a reason! Family friendly cafe and indoor picnic area. Get this free trail to download or print here.
- Kelham Island Museum, Sheffield. Indoor play area, engines, Sheffield steel history, Transport Gallery, plus Family craft activities Tuesday 19th drop in and cafe.
