Hello everyone!!! And welcome to September! A new month… have you all had a lovely summer? For most of you with school-aged kids it’ll be the end of the school holidays, I’d love to know what your highlights were? This week it’s quite a quick weekend what’s on because I’m in quite a rush! This Saturday is my event, and how weird it is to be putting my own event in these weekend roundups… it does feel so strange! What’s on this weekend in and around Sheffield for kids September 1/2

If you didn’t know; I have organised a trips with a tot charity fundraising family event on Saturday and it’s sold out with over 450+ people expected! Wow! I’m nervous and excited all the same. I’ve been making bunting and designing scavenger hunt trails for the last few years before I realised I hadn’t yet published this weekend roundup, so do excuse me for a rushed one; I have so much still to do and we’re only a few days away from never grow up event, eeeeek! Without further ado if you’re looking for fun things to do this weekend and events in and around Sheffield, day out ideas and more then keep reading. Kids World Planet Circus show at Hillsborough Park, Saturday 8th at 11am. £5.99 tickets on the door for any age.

On Saturday; Never Grow Up – Trips With a Tot and Hullabaloobell Charity fundraising event at Wadsley Church, S6, sold out.

Why not try the last free Story and Craft time at Waterstones on Saturday in Orchard Square. And if you’re in the city centre, read this for the top things to do with kids.

Chatsworth Country Fair is this weekend and it’s very, very popular! Annual outdoor event at Chatsworth Park for all the family.

Watch a family friendly showing of Peter Rabbit at Crookes Community Cinema, Saturday, doors open 2:30 and film starts at 3pm.

This weekend only, Elsecar By the Sea is on at Elsecar Heritage Centre. 10am-4pm with fairground rides, fake beach, music, candy floss and lots more.  Don’t forget about the really great park around the corner too; Elsecar Park.

It’s the last weekend for Summer at t’Pit at National Coal Mining Museum for England in Wakefield. Really great day out for a cheap price. There is a new adventure playground, nature trail, beach, train ride, pit ponies, indoor play area, museum and lots more.

Magna Science Adventure Centre Playgrounds & Water Play

Rocket shows, Aqua-Tek splash park, magna Mayhem (with extra dates) and more at Magna Science Adventure Centre, ends on Sunday.

Meet & greet T-Rex at Parkgate shopping centre in Rotherham, 11-3pm on Saturday.

A little further out but really worth it; Summer Fun at Piglets Adventure Farm in York. We went to Piglets last week and it was fantastic, I really loved how much there was to do and the circus show! There’s even a foam party at 4pm.

Over at Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood Festival is hugely popular every year. On all weekend, free event with activities, medieval music, entertainment, Robin Hood and lots more.

If you haven’t been yet (and even if you have!) Rufford On The Beach is still on and is until September 9th! Free, includes sandpits, playgrounds, punch and Judy, entertainment & more.

Classic Car Rally at Kirklees Light Railway, Sunday 10am-4pm. 150 vehicles on display, free event!

Free ideas for the weekend


We went to Clifton Park and Museum a few days ago and spent quite a while in the museum! I always forget about how good the museum is, it’s free and there’s plenty hands on stuff for kids, a little play area, lego, victorian play kitchen, colouring, cafe and of course the park is great.

If you haven’t been to Bears! yet at The Cooper Gallery, Saturday is your last chance. It’s sooo lovely and I highly recommend it. Read our review here.

There are some fun and free city trails going on at the moment, such as:

Piano Trail in Leeds – 12 imaginatively decorated pianos around Leeds available for everyone to play! Until 16th September.

Manchester Bees – over 100 supersized bee sculptures around Manchester and 130 little bees waiting to be found until 23rd September.

Nottingham Robins (and Nottingham Beach is on, too) – 33 giant robins around Nottingham City centre until 30th September.
