Who doesn’t love IKEA?! Kids can take part in a drawing competition, do crafts and colouring & enjoy playing in the play points throughout the store.

Meet the animals on the farm trail at Aston Springs Farm, S26 5PQ. Do paint a pot, have pizza in the Tack Barn and enjoy indoor play. Lovely day out! Pumpkin trail Saturday 27th-Wednesday 31st October. No need to book, £1 plus farm entry.
Check out The Victorian kitchen at Cannon Hall Museum in Barnsley which is great role play for kids. The country house is open to explore with all of the grand rooms furnished and decorated. It’s fascinating for all ages. There’s 70 acres of gardens to explore, acres of space to picnic and play. Definitely check out the fairyland folly!
Bounce at Inflatable Planet Sheffield every weekend until January at Concord Leisure Centre. 12 stations and a games area.
Make a visit to the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum in Doncaster.
Buxton, a 14th century old spa town in Derbyshire makes a beautiful day out in itself. There are nice shops to browse, charity shops aplenty for bargain hunting, cafes, pubs, coffee shops, many shopping and dining possibilities. But for me, the star of the show is the Pavilion Gardens. 23 acres of pleasure gardens to please the eye, a land train, lovely colourful playground, café with play area, nature, gift shops and events make this the “jewel in the crown” of Buxton.

Millennium Galleries, Sheffield. Saturday 27th. Help to tell the tale of The Hen-Pecked Husband, listen to the legend of Brigg the Dragon and hear about local hero, Robin of Loxley. £3, Suitable for ages 7-9, children must be accompanied by an adult.
Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Chesterfield is open every weekend, and on Saturday 27th is a special halloween event.
Out Of This World festival in Sheffield city centre, Sunday 28th. Step into a parallel universe of sci-fi, mystery and magic as Out Of This World returns to Sheffield with fun, free activities for all the family.
A 17th century working mill in Barnsley with grounds to explore, parkland and museum. You can see milling demonstrations, watch history come to life, spot wildlife and enjoy 70 acres of space. Entry to the mill and museum are free, some tours do cost a small fee. We had a really great free day out here which you can read about here.
Pick your pumpkins at Whirlow Hall Farm on Sunday 28th.
More than one, as there’s actually a handful (and then some!) of things to do in Hull. There are plenty free museums are situated all in the Museums Quarter. All of these museums don’t cost a penny. You can see Wilberforce House, the Hull and East Riding Museum, Streetlife and the Arctic Corsair trawler. There’s also Ferens Art Gallery and the Maritime Museum. All of these atrractions are in Hull City Centre so can easily be found within short journey of each other.
Mayfield Alpacas Animal Park halloween animal Encounter day, 28th October from 10:30am with Oreo and Friends Animal Encounters. Fancy dress, treasure hunt and lots of amazing animals. cafe on site, farm trail & of course, lots of alpacas!
Streets of Light trail, 29th October-3rd November. Last year 120 houses, shops and places of work took part in the first ever ‘Streets of Light’ trail. It was an amazing success, and this year we would like it to be even bigger and better than before. Find a map here.

Starlight Extravaganza at Crich Tramway Village. Daily 29th – 3rd November. The week when Crich Tramway Village is illuminated and the trams run into the early evening up to Saturday 3rd November. Plus Unicorn Day, Galatic Day, Halloween event, super hero day and more on their events calendar.

The history of Barnsley is told in the Experience Barnsley museum and discovery centre which includes intereactive displays, artefacts and films from local people. FREE. There’s lots of hands on things to play with, we love this museum. Dress up, sit on old vintage fairground cars, puzzles, colouring, and lots more. This museum was created by the people, for the people and offers a unique way to uncover the history of Barnsley, its stories and heritage.
Half Term: Museum Mystery Tour at Weston Park Museum, Tuesday 30 October 2018 11:30am – 12:15pm, free sign up on the day.
Go to Leeds & ride the free water taxi. Twee and Drie, the water taxi’s which sail on Leeds Dock to and from Royal Armouries Museum have come all the way from Amsterdam. The free service runs daily, 7am-7pm Monday-Friday and 10am-7pm on weekends. It’s such fun for all the family, especially for kids who will be fascinated with the boat and it adds a special touch to a day out at the Royal Armouries museum. Hagglers Kids Halloween Party, Wednesday 31st October from 3pm. The ideal Halloween party for your primary aged children. There will be traditional Halloween games, scavenger hunt, pumpkin calving, spell casting, prizes, snacks, disco and more, £5 per child.

Spooky Songs Halloween Family Workshop, Wednesday 31st October. Spooky songs in a family workshop inspired by the sights, sounds and stories of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. Come in Halloweeen fancy dress for a session which will include singing, play and exploring the spooky past of Abbeydale through songwriting. Sessions are 10am or 11.30am. Halloween Half Term at East Riddlesden Hall, Sunday 21st October-Wednesday 31st. Coloured pumpkins and spooky stories in a dimly lit barn – East Riddlesden Hall is a great place to spend Hallowe’en half-term. Spooky stories take place in the barn every day at 1.30pm, please dress warmly.

National Coal Mining Museum for England: free museum, indoor play area, good adventure playground (new!), pit ponies, nature trail. Or for a small fee have a family friendly coal pit tour and do spooky crafts.
Have a wonderful day out at Forge Dam in Sheffield. Walk to Endcliffe Park through the woods to get the best of both worlds. We love doing this.
Day out at Rivelin Valley Park, S6 5GL wonderful park with nature trails, woodlands, cafe, good big playground.
Have a day out to Hebden Bridge. The Great Pumpkin Festival is on Saturday 27th. Live pumpkin Carving, pumpkin displays, workshops, stalls, parade, competitions, events and much more.
Free Christmas card making at Office Outlet Sheffield. 20th October-1st November 10am-4pm.
National Science & Media Museum in Bradford has free entry and it’s a very big museum with an imax cinema and a sensory Wonderlab exhibition which is very fun for little ones.
Visit Wakefield Museum, free and really lovely for kids. Plus every Saturday there’s FREE family fun.
Sheffield Botanical Gardens is free to visit, open daily and really worth a visit. it’s beautiful and has a good cafe, lovely toy shop and little areas to explore.
If you’re in the city centre, Millennium Galleries is a modern gallery attached to Sheffield Winter Garden. Open daily and with 3 galleries to explore along with cafe, activity room and special exhibitions. Visit the Metalwork Collection room which has a steelworks play set for children to use. Pop into the Sheffield central children’s library, too, for a play with toys & read stories.
Hunt for boggarts at Longshaw Estate, National Trust on the edge of Sheffield. It’s free! Plus you must go down for a picnic at Padley Gorge. There is an additional spooky trail on throughout half term with sheets costing a small fee from the visitors centre.
A visit to the National Railway Museum in York is fantastic, FREE and a family favourite.
Tissington Trail is a wonderful flat path running all the way from Ashbourne to Buxton. You can cycle, scoot, walk or run! We did a few miles from Ashbourne and highly recommend it. Dovedale and Ilam Park are close by and wonderful.

Drop in family workshops at Hepworth Wakefield. Every Sunday, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Wakefield school holidays, 11am – 4pm. Suitable for 2 – 12 year olds, FREE. Playground and lovely cafe.
Norfolk Heritage Park, S2 2PL large park with ancient woodlands, cafe and community centre. NEW good adventure playgrounds suitable for all ages and picnic area.
Graves Park, S8 has a free animal farm and very good playgrounds; the largest park in Sheffield.
Wonderful days out
Wentworth Garden Centre, Rotherham. Lovely garden centre with shops, historic walled garden, aquatic centre, cafe and family farm. The family farm has 2 playgrounds and a sandpit, plus is opening a water/sand play area very soon. Here’s 5 reasons why kids love it.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Doncaster is a popular zoo for families. Lots of animals to see, play areas both indoor and outdoor, shopping village and places to eat make this a very popular attraction.

Thinktank Museum in Birmingham is really good. You can spend all day there and it’s fantastic; it has just about everything and is fun for everyone.
