Hello & welcome to another weekend roundup! Yay for the weekend 🙂 The weather is getting cooler now, anyone else feeling a bit autumnal? It’ll be halloween soon! 😉 If you’re looking for things to do this weekend in and around Sheffield then take your pick from all these fun events, day out ideas and much more… have fun!

And… there’s a few FREE heritage open days this weekend so you can visit places that usually cost completely free. Don’t miss out on these ones!

Nostell | Top 5 (4 free!) Things To Do With Kids in Wakefield
Nostell Priory | Visit for FREE on Saturday for Heritage Open Days

Sheffield Makers Fair at St Mary’s Church on Saturday at 10am-4pm. £1 entry, under 16’s free.

All weekend it’s the Sheffield Waterfront Bicentenary Festival 2019 at Victoria Quays. We went last year & it was lots of fun.

Skate with superheroes & princesses this weekend at IceSheffield… “Spend a magical morning meeting your favourite Princesses and legendary Superheroes in real life, as they swoop and glide onto the ice, ready to add a touch of magic and a dash of superpower to your skate!” on all weekend. Princess Party at Cannon Hall Farm, all weekend, £9.95 per child. Book here. The hour and a half party will give youngsters the chance to be up close and personal with our four Princesses who will be leading them through a series of fun challenges and party games.

Big Green Woodland weekend fair at Bentley Community Woodland, near Doncaster on Saturday, 12-4pm. A fun, free, family event with den building, marshmallow toasting, foraging walks, chainsaw carving demonstrations, story telling in a ti-pi, willow weaving, green woodworking, nature crafts, cakes and refreshments and lots more.

Swinton Scarecrow Festival Town Fayre on Saturday, 12-5pm.

Nostell Priory is FREE on Saturday for Heritage Open Days. No booking required. Explore National Trust’s Nostell Priory for free on Friday & Saturday, includes the house and gardens. Nostell Priory is a 18th-century architectural masterpiece with landscape park and gardens. Explore the house, see the kitchen gardens, walk around the lake and have fun in the outdoor play areas.

999 Emergency Day

999 emergency day at Yorkshire Air Museum on Sunday, An action packed family day out celebrating the work of the many Emergency Services across the UK. Tickets available on the day.

It’s Neuroscience Family Fun Day on Sunday at Graves Park, 11am-4pm. This is going to be popular. Graves park will be transformed by a hullabaloo of excitement as we celebrate the incredible work carried out by the ward, our inspiring patients and staff, connect with charities and businesses who support our valuable work and enjoy an array of exciting family activities.

Craft & gift fair at Elsecar Heritage Centre on Sunday. Free entry, 95 stalls. There is lots to do at the heritage centre and the park is really worth a visit.

FREE for Heritage Open Days… Tudor Open Day at Sheffield Manor Lodge, Sunday, 11am-4pm. Tours at 11:30, 13:00 & 14:30. I really recommend this one, the tours are family friendly and the ruins great to explore. Plus there’s a sandpit, a little maze and loads of grounds to play on outside.

Pear day! at Cannon Hall Museum & Gardens, free entry. A highlight of Yorkshire’s food calendar is Pear Day, a popular event in September celebrating Cannon Hall’s annual pear harvest. Families will have a great time as the Hall and gardens will be packed with fun things to do, including, music, art activities and children’s entertainment. 11am-4pm, drop in.

Walled Garden Open Day at Cusworth Park, Doncaster, Sunday. Cusworth Park’s very own secret garden will once again open up to the public on Sunday 22nd September no booking required. Come along and discover the newly restored Bowling Pavilion, the orchard and bowling green. There will be toys and games for all the family to enjoy, plus croquet demonstration and a themed quiz. We will also be joined by the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster, who will be displaying around 40 classic vehicles in front of Cusworth Hall. Admission is free for everyone, donations are very welcome.

A family day out at Yorkshire Wildlife Park: review

This week I’ve found this amazing new place online and I can’t wait to go myself… what about a FAIRY SANCTUARY?!?! The new Northwood Trail near York looks absolutely magical, I think you’ll agree!

Have a fun day out at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. So much to do and see, loads of animals, amazing outdoor play areas, indoor play areas and drop slides, shows, village area with restaurants, shops and more.

Take the kids to an amazing adventure playground. We love the one at Chatsworth House.

From our community group, Rebecca recommends the National Coal Mining museum in Wakefield. It’s a great FREE day out and loads to do, indoor & out. Take your own food & only pay for parking as a donation. We really like it too and would totally recommend you go if you haven’t. The adventure playground is great. There’s so much more to do in Wakefield, too.

We really love Rivelin Valley Park for a beautiful woodland walk, cafe and playground. Lovely free day out.

Best things to do at Tropical Butterfly House, Sheffield
Wilderness Walk – Tropical Butterfly House

There is SO much to do at Tropical Butterfly House, voted #1 thing to do in Sheffield on TripAdvisor, and it’s no surprise. We really love the outdoor play areas. There’s always something new to see there and I highly recommend it for under 5’s, especially.

Endcliffe Park in Sheffield is one of the most popular fun parks for families at weekends. There’s a little funfair, good playground, busy cafe and woodlands. So much to do and a really lovely day out for all.

What about a countryside walk?

If you have a little one then you’ll love Heeley City Farm & it’s free! Bigger farm? Try the FREE one at Graves Park (may be busy with the Neuroscience event his weekend), Cannon Hall Farm or Aston Springs Farm.

Tracy recommends Mayfield Alpaca Animal Park in Sheffield. She says, “it was nice to have a little walk round the fields, my 4 year old enjoyed the smaller inside animals. Nice little cafe too”.

More recommendations… Lu really loved Sundown Adventureland just as much as her toddler did! One of their other favourite family days out has been Chatsworth House, another vote for the playgrounds.

Lovely time of year to have a walk from Forge Dam to Endcliffe Park through the woodlands. Do pop in to Shepherd Wheel workshop, too.
